Imola is one of the most historic Formula One circuits on the calendar and last weekend's downpours created an atmospheric and exciting Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Capturing this emotive Grand Prix is no easy feat, but Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team and Motorsport Images photographer Zak Mauger explains the small details that helped him create a series of evocative images.

"The wet weather on Friday offered an opportunity to experiment, so I tried to find somewhere with a bit of colour for this shot.
"Taken as the drivers come up the hill out of Acque Minerali, I used a slow shutter speed.
"With a new grandstand at this corner for 2022, panning with the car creates a nice effect with the fans helping to create colour in the background."

"In this shot, Sebastian's helmet was placed on the engineering bench ahead of his seat check on Thursday.
"Using a wide aperture to isolate the helmet, it helps create a striking image of Sebastian's helmet design against the lights and out-of-focus car behind."

"For this image, I utilised the weather conditions to create a striking effect, using the raindrops that have fallen on the Aston Martin logo.
"The shot then works as a really nice scene-setter and tells the story of the weather that affected the Grand Prix weekend."

"This is a shot that's helped by the quieter moments before the Grand Prix on Sunday, which means you have a little more space to move around and try different shots.
"Here, I've used the reflection in the side panelling to create a mirror image."

"The drivers typically wear a clear visor when it rains, which is the key to this photo.
"I thought the grid would be a good opportunity to capture Sebastian getting into the zone, using a 50mm prime lens and a wide aperture to really bring out his eyes."

"This is a challenging shot to take as it was captured on a long telephoto lens with a slow shutter speed and a narrow window between the trees where you can see the car.
"As soon as you catch a glimpse of the car further up the hill, you've got to start panning with it.
"You're almost shooting blind and relying on engine sound.
"The purple blossom tree was a bonus, it adds a bit of colour on a grey race day."
