Singapore Grand Prix

Taming the streets of Lion City

HEAR FROM THE TEAM
Singapore GP header portrait Saturday

On the floodlit streets of Marina Bay, Fernando and Lance finished Formula One's original night race in P8 and P13 respectively. Read on for full coverage of our weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix, and get the thoughts of the team.

  • Our drivers opted for similar tyre strategies, both starting on the Soft compound. Fernando began from P10, and following penalties for other drivers, Lance lined up on the grid in P15.

  • During the opening stages of the race, our drivers worked on understanding where the track's grip was following rain earlier in the day.

  • Lance and Fernando both gained positions during the opening laps, with Fernando up to P8 and Lance P14 by Lap 5.

  • At the end of Lap 28, Fernando pitted from P5. An unfortunate slow pitstop meant he returned to the track in P15 on the Medium compound.

  • After 38 laps on the Soft tyre, Lance came in for his pitstop and switched to Mediums.

  • Throughout the second half of the race, Fernando worked on regaining positions. An excellent recovery saw him climb to P7 and claim six points.

  • The United States Grand Prix takes place 17-19 October.

Let's see what we can do and hopefully fight for points on Sunday.

"Since the first lap in FP1, I felt quite comfortable with the car and I was able to find the limits quite quickly.

"The Red Flags didn't help to show the full picture on the timesheets, and the real test is tomorrow in Qualifying.

"Let's see what we can do and hopefully fight for points on Sunday."

I had a good feeling in the car today and we looked a bit more competitive.

"We managed to get some good laps in today.

"We learned a lot and changed the car set-up in between practice sessions. The track conditions were very different in FP2 compared to FP1 with the temperatures dropping and the sun coming down.

"I had a good feeling in the car today and we looked a bit more competitive than recently. With the higher downforce this track should hopefully suit our car better so let's see what we can do tomorrow."

We'll see what happens tomorrow and hopefully battle for the points.

"I was happy with the lap in Q3 and it was good we made it into the top ten, but we didn't have the performance to do much more than that.

"We made some changes between sessions but overall, the car proved to be quite difficult to drive in FP3 and Qualifying.

"We are also starting on the dirty side of the grid, but we'll see what happens tomorrow and hopefully battle for the points."

We will start from P17 tomorrow and see what we can do.

"Seems like one of those days where putting clean laps together felt difficult to achieve.

"I pushed on the second run in Qualifying and unfortunately locked up the front in sector three where I lost too much time.

"We will start from P17 tomorrow and see what we can do. The car has been feeling tricky to handle here all weekend so it could be a long and tough race for us."

We will do our homework tonight and we know races here in Singapore can be very unpredictable.

"As usual a very close grid here in Singapore with eight tenths covering the top ten.

"Our pace has been up and down through today and the car has been unpredictable, especially in the final sector. Both Fernando and Lance were suffering there in Q1 which stopped Lance progressing into Q2.

"We will do our homework tonight and we know races here in Singapore can be very unpredictable.

"P10 puts us in the thick of the midfield fight and we will do what we can to try and score some points tomorrow."

We had a good race tonight and the car was behaving well.

"We had a good race tonight and the car was behaving well. I enjoy racing here and it's very physically demanding too.

"We showed good pace on both stints and the team made a good call to fit the Medium tyres, as that enabled us to fight back after a slow pitstop.

"Hopefully we can score some more points at the remaining rounds of the Championship."

We did the best we could do and we will keep trying.

"No opportunities for us today; we tried to sit it out and waited for a Safety Car that never came.

"We managed to make the Soft tyre work for 38 laps. The Mediums in the second stint wore off quicker than expected due to traffic, overheating and fighting other cars. It could have gone better for us, but we did the best we could do and we will keep trying.

"We now look to Texas in two weeks' time."

Singapore is known for its Safety Cars and lack of overtaking, but this evening there were no Safety Cars and Fernando and Lance did plenty of overtaking!

"Singapore is known for its Safety Cars and lack of overtaking, but this evening there were no Safety Cars and Fernando and Lance did plenty of overtaking! "The slightly damp track encouraged us to start both cars on the Softs, which proved to be the right decision as the race played out.

"Lance did a fantastic job of managing the Softs for 38 laps, holding out for a Safety Car before taking the Mediums to the end, gaining seven places with some great overtakes. "Fernando also did his overtaking on the track, and P7 this evening saw the fans vote him driver of the day.

"The team did a great job with tyre decisions, cooling levels and strategy to optimise the race performance. We take encouragement from this and will look to carry this momentum into Austin."

Welcome to F1's original night race

When F1 first came to Singapore, the Marina Bay Street Circuit, usually first seen from the highway over the track, looked absolutely incredible: something not of this Earth. 17 years on, the sparkling street scene is still jaw-dropping, but the success of F1's original night race lies in its many imitators, and a quarter of the calendar now takes place after dark.

Singapore, however, is still special. The atmosphere is electric, the race usually delivers something dramatic, and the drivers – and teams – are pushed to the limit by a demanding circuit in an unforgiving climate.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix a fortnight ago was challenging, with both Fernando and Lance eliminated in Q2 and unable to conjure a point, but Marina Bay is a very different sort of street circuit and much more likely to suit the AMR25.

There's no Formula 2 this weekend, and Formula 3 has concluded for the year, but F1 ACADEMY is back in action for its penultimate 2025 event. Aston Martin Aramco F1 ACADEMY driver Tina Hausmann sits eighth in the table, but a good run of form has seen her make up ground on her rivals in front. There's plenty of drama in store on the streets of the Lion City.

It's one of the most challenging races, especially in terms of physicality, and usually the longest race, with extreme heat and at night, so we require ultimate concentration.
