Round 07 | Barcelona-Catalunya

Where passion runs deep

GRAND PRIX REACTION
Barcelona GP Sunday header portrait

It was a difficult weekend at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, where our drivers did not finish due to issues with the AMR26.

Read on to get the reaction of our team trackside.

  • In front of the passionate fanáticos, our drivers both opted for an alternate strategy. They were the only two drivers to begin on the C2 – this weekend's Hard compound.

  • Track temperatures at the start of the race were up to 51°C. While Lance began from P21, Fernando set off from the pitlane after changing his power unit.

  • After a few laps on track, a gearbox issue resulted in Lance having to retire from the race.

  • Fernando's first pitstop came at the end of Lap 22. He switched to a fresh set of Hards.

  • Unfortunately, Fernando's race came to an end after 37 laps due to a battery issue.

  • The Austrian Grand Prix takes place on 26-28 June. Check back here for all the updates and to hear from our team.

We've collected a good amount of data and we know the areas we need to work on.

"We got laps on the board today, so we've collected a good amount of data and we know the areas we need to work on.

"We're still missing downforce and we had some balance issues out there too, so we're working with those limitations. We're doing everything we can to try and make things better ahead of Qualifying tomorrow."

It's always special to drive in front of the Spanish fans.

"There are no surprises that we qualified at the back as we know this is our level of car performance right now.

"We had downshifting issues and it was very difficult to drive the car in each Qualifying lap.

"It's always special to drive in front of the Spanish fans though, and thanks to them for their amazing support over the weekend."

"We're still suffering from drivability issues here in Barcelona.

"We're down on downforce, which is especially tough around this track, and we don't have the power we need. We'll see what tomorrow brings."

Both drivers and the team gave it everything today.

"We knew coming into the weekend that this track would expose our true pace, and that is reflected in our Qualifying result.

"Both drivers and the team gave it everything today, but we have to accept that this is our current position and do what we can in tomorrow's race."

"We are struggling with our performance, and we know this is our situation until around the summer break.

We have a lot of things to work on.

"I had to retire the car because of a gearbox issue; I couldn't get third or fourth gear for the last couple of laps. We'll investigate it further after the race.

"We have a lot of things to work on, and we're focusing on our upgrade package which is due around summer break.

"Until then, we know things will continue to be difficult."

A difficult weekend came to an end with a DNF for both cars.

"A difficult weekend came to an end with a DNF for both cars.

"Lance reported a gearbox issue, whilst Fernando had to stop due to a problem with the battery.

"We'll now regroup and look ahead to Spielberg.

"I want to thank all the Aston Martin Aramco fans here – it was nice to see all the green in the grandstands and we really appreciate the support.

"We'll keep pushing hard to hopefully give you more to cheer about in future races."

Welcome to Barcelona

Usually, at this time of year, we're coming to Montmeló for the Spanish Grand Prix. The race is the same in 2026 but the name has changed – and to the undoubted irritation of future statisticians, this year we have the inaugural Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is F1's home track. Nowhere has seen as many F1 laps as this circuit nestled in the Vallès Oriental above the Mediterranean coast – including the debut of the 2026 cars, back in January. We keep coming back here for a variety of reasons. It’s the right location, with the right weather (less so in January), good facilities and a track that tests everything. It's also Fernando-land: his supporters have been packing this place to capacity for over two decades. He's the race ambassador, and will get a rousing reception coming off the back of scoring our first point of the season with a typically gritty drive in Monaco.

It's also a home race for Aston Martin Aramco Drive Academy member Mari Boya, with F2 on the bill this weekend, at a circuit that's got form for producing captivating Formula 2 races.
