ROUND 06 | MONACO

A point in the Principality

GRAND PRIX REACTION
Monaco GP header portrait

The team has earned its first point of the 2026 season after Fernando took P10 at the Monaco Grand Prix. Lance unfortunately retired from the race after making contact with a barrier.

Read on for all the thoughts and reaction from the team trackside in Monte Carlo.

  • Fernando and Lance lined up P20 and P21 on the grid, promoted one position each with Gabriel Bortoleto starting in the pit lane.

  • Our drivers kept it clean at the start and pitted early to switch from the Medium to Soft compound tyres, as the team eyed a one-stop strategy.

  • Much of the race, typically for Monaco, was processional, with both our drivers lapping towards the back end of the field.

  • In the closing stages, Lance made contact with the barriers at Turn 19, reporting an issue in the deceleration phase of the corner, while the track surface breaking up on entry may have also played a part.

  • This sparked a Safety Car period, with Fernando pitting for a fresh set of Softs as the field bunched up.

  • On racing conditions resuming, Charles Leclerc suffered a similar incident to Lance at the same corner, prompting a red flag as the FIA sought to inspect the tarmac at Turn 19.

  • At the race restart, Fernando fought hard to take P11 across the line, which became P10 as Sergio Pérez was handed a penalty after the chequered flag.

  • A point on the board for 2026. Thank you to the team, our partners, and our fans for the ongoing work and continued support. Our focus now turns to Barcelona next weekend.

We are struggling for front grip and have heavy understeer on the car.

"It was a difficult day for us in Monaco.

"We are struggling for front grip and have heavy understeer on the car.

"It's very inconsistent and not easy to drive. Hopefully we can do some setup changes and improve the situation tonight.

"My seat is feeling more comfortable and it seems we have improved this."

The car lacked the consistency and predictability our drivers need.

"We knew today would be challenging, but it proved tougher than expected.

"We tried a number of changes across the sessions and gathered plenty of information about where we need to improve.

"The car lacked the consistency and predictability our drivers need to push with confidence around this circuit.

"There is a lot of work to do overnight, but we are focused on making a step forward for tomorrow."

The car has been tricky with no grip.

"We've struggled with the same issues all weekend – the car has been tricky with no grip, so this result was expected.

"The team has been trying various changes between sessions, but we're limited with downforce and power, so it's not much fun out there."

We just don't have the pace.

"There wasn't a big difference compared to yesterday and we just don't have the pace.

"We had some hopes coming here to Monaco, but we don't have much confidence in the car and have had a lack of front grip all weekend.

"I thought I did the best laps possible today with this current package."

Today's Qualifying result reflects our pace.

"Today's Qualifying result reflects our pace.

"We have not managed to give the drivers a predictable car, which is essential on this track, and we have struggled to build tyre temperature.

"Let's see if there are opportunities tomorrow: Monaco is a long race with plenty of action where anything can happen."

The acceleration and deceleration just isn't consistent.

"We've been dealing with these drivability issues all season, and it was the same again this weekend.

"The acceleration and deceleration just isn't consistent, and it changes from one corner to the next. At most circuits you've got some run-off to work with, so you can manage it, but around here the walls are really close and any issue can put you into the barrier. That was also a big reason why I was getting picked up for track limits.

"We'll take a closer look after the race, and the team will keep pushing for improvements ahead of Barcelona next week."

We made sure to take the opportunities that were available to us.

“I took a lot of risk on lap one and at the restart, and just tried to consolidate whatever position we were in.

"It was so difficult out there today, but we went aggressive with the strategy, stopping on lap three, and we were thinking to go until the end of the race with just one stop.

"The red flag restart helped, and we made sure to take the opportunities that were available to us.

"So I think we managed the race quite well and it was a nice reward for everybody in the team to score our first point of the year."

It proved to be a typical race of attrition in Monaco.

"It proved to be a typical race of attrition in Monaco, which helped us progress to our best result of the year with Fernando in P10 – our first point scored with Honda.

"It was not an easy weekend, and the car has been difficult to drive, but we knew there could be opportunities, and we were there when it mattered at the end.

"The retirement of Lance is something we are investigating. He has been suffering with problems in the deceleration phase of corners, which seems to have contributed to the crash at Turn 19. The track breaking up may have played a part too."

Welcome to Monaco

Monaco is the marquee event. When many – if not most – people think of Formula One, the image that rises unbidden is of cars flashing past the yachts in Port Hercules – and the harbour is only part of the glamour in an event famed for its celebrity sightings, fashion and A-list parties.

Very occasionally a race breaks out too. In the dry, those have a tendency towards the processional, with the real heart-in-mouth drama taking place on Saturday during F1's most tense qualifying hour. It's a crucible in the most innocuous of years, but two extra cars on F1's most cramped circuit, and a complex energy deployment procedure are sure to ramp up the pressure even higher. Plus, we've got Mari on track this weekend in F2, at a circuit where, last year, he finished the F3 Feature Race on the podium.

We also arrive in Monaco with a bold new look. Together with our Principal Partner Maaden, we've unveiled a striking special livery which will change colour as the AMR26 laps the circuit, symbolising the transformation of raw materials into advanced technology.

Take a closer look at the livery below, and keep scrolling for everything you need to know this weekend.
