ROUND 03 | JAPAN
"A significant moment for the team""A significant moment for the team"
GRAND PRIX REACTION
At the formidable Suzuka Circuit, the team completed race distance with Fernando classifying P18.
Read on to get the reaction of the team trackside.
Fernando and Lance began the Japanese Grand Prix from P21 and P22 respectively and both made up a place during the opening laps.
Both drivers made their first stint on the Medium compound.
On Lap 22, our drivers both pitted under a Safety Car period, switching onto the Hard compound. They then each made a second pitstop under the Safety Car for Medium tyres. When the race resumed on Lap 27, Lance was running in P19 and Fernando in P20.
Lance was called into the pits on Lap 31 after a suspected water pressure issue and unfortunately had to retire from the race.
Completing full race distance around the recently-resurfaced Suzuka Circuit, Fernando concluded in P18.
We'll return to the track on 1-3 May for the Miami Grand Prix.
THE LATEST FROM THE TRACK
Welcome to Japan
Japan is steeped in racing culture, and nowhere more so than Suzuka. Every corner is a masterpiece with names that trip off the tongue: Spoon; 130R; the Esses. It has the most enthusiastic fans and presents an opportunity for visitors to experience a culture quite unlike their own: Fernando and Jenson love it, having a profound affinity with samurai warriors and Japanese culture, respectively.
This is a home race and a homecoming for the team, as our works power unit partner, Honda, makes its return to F1 at the circuit that was created in the early 1960s as a Honda test track. Still owned by Honda, the figure-eight track in Mie Prefecture provides one of the sternest tests of F1 machinery and offers perhaps a better opportunity to show off the capabilities of the new cars than was the case in Albert Park and Shanghai.
This weekend is also the final time before the summer months that we'll see the three standard practice sessions. This is an opportunity to learn a lot about the AMR26, but also a chance to get Third Driver Jak Crawford into the car. Jak will be taking over Fernando's seat for FP1 on Friday morning, before Fernando gets back in for the afternoon.

The first sector at Suzuka is key because you have so many high-speed corners. You need good aero balance to get to Degner 1 with the tyres in the perfect operating window.

The making of a Third Driver
Jak Crawford is right where he wants to be – for now. Ahead of his Free Practice run at the Japanese Grand Prix, meet the Aston Martin Aramco driver who won't race in 2026 unless Lance or Fernando are unable to get behind the wheel.
