Hungarian Grand Prix

"A solid weekend from start to finish"

GRAND PRIX REACTION
Hungary race page mobile hero

We head into the summer shutdown on a positive note after securing a double points finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Fernando classifying in fifth and Lance in seventh.

The final race weekend before Formula One's annual mid-season hiatus, the Hungaroring played host to round 14 of the 2025 World Championship. Read on for full coverage of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend and for the thoughts and reaction of our team.

  • Fernando and Lance lined up in P5 and P6 respectively at lights out, with both keeping things clean on the run down to a notoriously tight first corner.

  • After the opening stages, Fernando ran in fifth whilst Lance was in eighth. Both settled into their rhythm as the team sought to execute a one-stop strategy with both cars.

  • Utilising a one- or two-stop strategy was the debate being held up and down the pitlane as teams balanced tyre wear against track position at a circuit that's usually hard to overtake at.

  • Fernando and Lance's strong tyre management provided the opportunity to commit to the one-stop option, as both traded their Mediums for Hards midway through the race.

  • Fernando maintained fifth through to the end of the Grand Prix, whilst Lance rose to seventh before the chequered flag, securing a healthy chunk of points for the team as the curtain fell on act one of the 2025 season.

  • Earlier in the day, Aston Martin Aramco Young Driver Jak Crawford took third place in the F2 Feature Race, whilst Aston Martin Aramco Driver Academy member Mari Boya also made the podium in the F3 Feature Race as he crossed the line in second following a composed drive in damp conditions.

I really enjoyed today's FP1 session.

"It was good getting behind the wheel of the AMR25. The car felt nice to drive and I felt comfortable.

"I only got confirmation that I would be replacing Fernando in FP1 this morning, and I'm happy with my performance today.

"I didn't have much time to prepare, but I watched some videos of laps to get ready and I had done some laps on the sim as part of my duties as Test and Reserve Driver this weekend.

"It was a good session and we got through the work we needed to, which is the main thing."

Obviously I missed FP1, but FP2 felt good in the car.

"I have a small injury in a muscle in my back which we are managing. We have found some solutions to help manage it and I had no pain in FP2, so that's a positive.

"Obviously I missed FP1, but FP2 felt good in the car. The balance of the car isn't quite in the window yet and that's something we need to work on overnight. We'll review all of the data and we'll see what we can do tomorrow."

The car felt good and I was happy with the car balance during both practice sessions.

"I'm excited to be back in Hungary, I always enjoy coming back here. The timesheets looked positive today – the car felt good and I was happy with the car balance during both practice sessions.

"So a good start to the weekend, but it's always hard to tell on a Friday where you stand compared to your competitors."

Fifth position is a great result for us.

"It seems the layout and characteristics of this track suit our car much better, and we need to try to understand this.

"The wind direction changed in Q3 and made the track slower, so we couldn't match the times of Q1 and Q2.

"We decided to run in the middle of the session in Q3 to avoid any other wind changes and we were close to pole position, so I think this decision worked well for us.

"If we can finish fifth and sixth tomorrow that would be a great result heading into the summer break."

The track really seems to suit the car.

"Strong result for the team today – especially after such a tough weekend in Spa just a few days ago.

"The car was just a lot of fun to drive in Qualifying. It was super tight: we missed pole by a tenth and it's great to be starting from P6 tomorrow.

"The track really seems to suit the car and, with the conditions today, it all came together and everything was in the sweet spot for us.

"Let's see what happens tomorrow, but it's nice starting further up and we'll see what we can do. Hopefully we're in a position to score some points. We'll fight for sure."

Now we need to deliver a strong result in the race.

"Fifth and sixth on the grid in Budapest is a good result – well done to the entire team here and back at the AMR Technology Campus: everybody has played their part.

"Fernando and Lance did an excellent job and the car has been competitive since the start of practice yesterday. Now we need to deliver a strong result in the race, too. When you start on the third row of the grid in Hungary, you always have a good chance of scoring points because overtaking is so difficult.

"There will be lots of strategy discussions overnight and we need to execute well tomorrow."

We maximised the performance of the car this weekend.

[["The best weekend of the season for us, fifth and seventh. A well-executed race, good pace, good tyre management, and the best way to go into the summer break. I wish all of our fans, everyone in the team, partners an enjoyable four weeks off and we will come back faster and more motivated for the second part of the year.]]

"Today's race went to plan for us and we maximised the performance of the car this weekend. It was a good job by everyone in the team and we are happy to have scored 16 points. We had some threats to deal with in the race, but we managed to keep them behind.

"The performance we've shown here has been a nice surprise, but we need to analyse everything from Spa and Budapest so we can better understand why we were much faster here in Hungary. I will enjoy the short break now and I look forward to racing again in Zandvoort."

We want to be at this level of competitiveness more consistently.

"It was a great day for the team and a solid weekend from start to finish. Heading into the summer break with 16 points is a big uplift for us. But we have lots to learn from this weekend because we don't fully understand why we were more competitive here.

"We need to be in a place where we can put the car in that window at more tracks because ultimately, we want to be at this level of competitiveness more consistently. We'll see how we go in Zandvoort after the break because it's a very different kind of track."

These 16 points will give everybody in the team a boost.

"Fifth and seventh place in Budapest is a good way to wrap up the first half of the year. Fernando and Lance have been excellent all weekend and converted our strong qualifying result into important points. They both made the one-stop strategy work and did a great job of managing the Medium tyres during the long first stint.

"It has been our most competitive weekend this season so well done to the entire team for the great preparation and execution. It is always nice to start the summer break off the back of a good result and these 16 points will give everybody in the team a boost. We will take a few weeks' holiday and come back ready to build on this result in the races to come."

Hitting the track at the Hungaroring

Not the beginning of the end, but most certainly the end of the beginning. F1's final race before the summer shutdown takes us to the banks of the Danube for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Hungaroring, on the outskirts of Budapest, is a tight, twisty, technical circuit, reminiscent of a super-sized kart track. A flying lap of the track, with its relentless cavalcade of corners, is a breathless experience, and it is a circuit that has staged many memorable races over the years, including Fernando Alonso's maiden Grand Prix victory in 2003.

Last week in Belgium was a trying experience, with our first non-scoring race since Monaco. It was also a frustrating weekend for Jak Crawford in F2 and Mari Boya in F3. The beauty of this packed European middle-sector of the season, however, is that we don't have to dwell on it before returning to the track again.

It's a great, technical circuit. If you mess one corner up, that makes the next series of corners quite difficult.
