Road to 2022: Watch Sebastian's AMR22 seat fit

Sebastian's back

He's back in the building. Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team driver Sebastian Vettel has returned to Silverstone HQ and completed his seat fitting in the AMR22 ahead of the 2022 season.

The seat fit is a crucial step in the pre-season programme, as it's essential for a driver to feel both comfortable behind the wheel and perfectly in tune with the car around them.

Sebastian's seat fit

Sitting comfortably? Sebastian Vettel is back at our HQ in Silverstone to get acquainted with the AMR22. Join us behind the scenes for an exclusive look at Seb's first step on the Road to 2022 - his seat fit.

Sebastian's back

A top racing driver can feel every aspect of their car's performance through the seat. But, if they are moving around too much inside the seat, it can reduce their sensitivity to the forces they experience.

To begin the seat fit process, a carbon shell is created and optimised to a driver's specification. Then, they climb into the cockpit and use expanding foam around the shell to create the full mould.

During the process, a driver will be looking to create a seat that has been perfectly honed to their individual preferences – not only for comfort and feel, but also from an ergonomic perspective.

Key objectives are to ensure that the pedals are in easy reach, their elbows are free to fully rotate the steering wheel, and that they have a clear field of vision when inside the car.

Next up, it's Lance Stroll's turn. Keep an eye on our channels to see him settle into the AMR22 and make sure you keep joining us on our Road to 2022. We climb together.
