  • CFD Applications Engineer

    We have an exciting opportunity for a CFD Applications Engineer.

    Purpose:

    -As a CFD Applications Engineer, you will be the link between CFD developers and aerodynamicists.

    -Working together with our CFD developers, you investigate avenues to improve the accuracy and efficiency of our CFD tools and processes.

    -Working alongside our aerodynamicists, guiding them in how best to use CFD.

    -To actively contribute to the Team’s primary objective of consistently being a top three team in the FIA Constructor’s Championship

    Primary Responsibilities:

    -To identify and resolve correlation issues between CFD, wind tunnel and track, with the aim to improve the accuracy of our analysis and development tools.

    -To progress analysis tools and develop new capabilities to improve our understanding and development rate.

    -To maintain and develop skill levels to industry standards and maintain current and thorough working knowledge of our analysis and development tools 

    Skills & Knowledge Required:

    -Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of aerodynamic fundamentals, specifically bluff body aerodynamics.

    -A strong understanding of the practical and theoretical considerations with regards to meshing methodology, turbulence modelling, numerical stability, etc

    -To have a methodical approach to problem solving, specifically concerning correlation issues, and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the three domains, i.e. CFD, experimental and track.

    -To be detail oriented and have a high working standard, achieving targets and deliver results within required timescales.

  • Control Systems Engineer

    We are looking for a talented Control Systems Engineer to join our team reporting to the Head of Control Systems.

    The primary role of the Control Systems Engineer will be the development and support of the electronic control systems used by the Company and their associated software/analysis tools.

    Responsibilities:

    -Development of electronic control systems for on car use, HIL simulator, DIL simulator and test facilities.

    -Ownership of control systems projects, from specification, through to implementation, testing, delivery, and maintenance.

    -Development of software/tools for the configuration, calibration, data monitoring/analysis and performance optimisation of the electronic control and data systems.

    -Provide development support for the standard ECU software and calibration to achieve optimal car performance.

    -Investigate control systems issues using telemetry, HIL and SIL tools and provide feedback on the resolution to the appropriate project owners.

    -Development of HIL simulations and associated plant models to provide improved coverage of systems testing and calibration.

    -Development of coding standards and systems engineering development methodologies.

    -Provide factory, and possibly track, support for race and test events for the operation of the control systems when necessary.

    Requirements:

    -Good degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electronics, mechanical, automotive, mechatronics).

    -Strong mathematical/analytical skills and control theory knowledge.

    -Experience of the modelling/simulation of electronic control systems with mechanical/hydraulic/electrical elements.

    -Proven track record of developing real-time control system software using Matlab Simulink/Stateflow/autocoding tools.

  • Design Engineer - Engine Systems

    We are expanding our Engine System design group to improve car performance.

    We are looking for experienced design engineers to be an effective part of the team responsible for the scheme, design and development of varied mechanical and composite components.

    The group is responsible for the design of the fuel system, engine cooling system such as radiators and radiator ducts, as well as many engine ancillaries component design including tanks and package for electric components.

    Key skills:

    -The Head of IT Trackside will supervise and ensure the efficient operation of the company’s Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator systems.

    The Head of IT Trackside will:

    -Work closely with I.T. management and other stakeholders to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support technology solutions for all aspects of the Trackside operation.

    -Be accountable for any direct or indirect Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator systems related issues and ensure that they are clearly communicated and resolved.

    -Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all key stakeholders including trackside, factory and third parties.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    1. Lead

    -Ensure Continuous Improvement plans are in place, published and implemented.

    -Lead Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator systems delivery and support.

    -Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator, including networks, servers, audio/visual, clients, operating systems, and other associated hardware and software.

    -Ensure the efficient utilisation of Trackside IT resources to ensure setup, support and pack up of the trackside infrastructure is optimised for efficiency.

    -Provide timely operational reports and documentation related to Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator systems.

    -Develop and publish in and out of season maintenance schedules for all Trackside IT, Ops Room & Driver Simulator systems.

    -Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.

  • Model Build Technician

    We are looking for a Model Build Technician to join our team at a tremendously exciting time for Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team.

    We are expanding the Model Build Department not only to improve car performance but also to transform our test capabilities as we move into a brand-new factory.

    The successful candidates will ideally have previous experience of model-making in a high level motorsport environment, have a good attention to detail, work calmly and accurately under pressure, work positively and enthusiastically in a small team and have a flexible attitude to helping fulfil the requirements of the department.

    The role will primarily be focussed on building our wind tunnel models and will include fitting detailed components, preparing / organising model build projects and carrying out several levels of model inspection. Recent experience of wind tunnel test sessions is essential, this role will include weekend wind tunnel sessions in a rotation basis.

    Additional duties may be required from time to time within our model R&D and Full Size to meet the high demands of the team.

    Purpose:

    -To provide NDT, Mechanical and Composite inspection support for all aspects of the race team’s requirements

    -To assist in the assembly and maintenance of all composite components trackside

    -To ensure the surface quality of all trackside composite components is fit for purpose

    -To accurately track composite component allocations and produce daily damage reports

    -To adhere to Build spec’s, throughout each event

    -To ensure all issues are reported to the Chief Mechanic and Reliability Engineer

    -To ensure a safe working environment and all H&S is followed as required

    -To actively participate in Pit stops as allocated

    -To carry out winter pit equipment service and rebuild

    -To travel to all race and test events required

    -To actively contribute to the Team’s primary objective of consistently being a top three team in the FIA Constructor’s Championship

    Primary Responsibilities:

    -NDT support for all aspects of the Race Team’s requirements to include new product support and turn around servicing

    -Read and interpret engineering drawings or process specifications and provide relevant information to department heads as required

    -Apply proven company testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results

    -Perform incoming and final inspection of products to meet race team requirements

    -Complete inspection documentation, procedures and reports, and update computerised management system as required

    -Convey an opinion on the inspected component based on previous experiences of similar components, in a concise and clear manner

    -To assist in maintaining all trackside composite components to an exacting standard and within the required timeframe

    -To ensure correct parts are fitted and reflect the associated allocations

    -To Produce daily damage reports and ensure the necessary information is supplied to the factory

    -To produce accurate shortages list and communicate this to the RT Assistant and Spares Co-Ordinator for every event

    -To adhere to the necessary documentation required

    -To Communicate effectively and adhere to radio protocol

    -To communicate effectively to the factory composites and DO as required

    -To ensure that the cars, parts, drawings and procedures are kept within the confines of the team

    -To actively participate in Pit stops as allocated and ensure all training requests are adhered to

    -To assist in garage set-up and pack-down

    -To work proactively, responsibly and professionally at all times and to respect and comply with the company’s reporting structure

    Skills & Knowledge Required:

    -UT – in Carbon composite materials

    -MPI - in Fixed installations & Bench top application e.g. permanent magnet, ac/dc equipment

    -Eddy Current – Ferrous, Aluminium Alloys and Titanium materials

    -Must hold a minimum Level 2 qualification (PCN/EN 4179)
