Shutter Speed: 2022 Saudi Arabia GP

This week's Shutter Speed takes on one of the fastest and longest circuits in Formula One: Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Winding around 27 corners with speeds clearing 200km/h under the floodlights, the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix provides a perfect landscape for F1's leading photographers.

Join Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team and Motorsport Images photographer Zak Mauger as he explains the details that help create a stunning range of images.

"This shot of Lance Stroll was shot with a slow shutter speed just as the sun began to set over the Red Sea during final practice on Saturday evening.

"I noticed there was a spot between the palm trees and buildings where the light was hitting the track, and I was able to use the scenery and lighting to create this image.

"The light pings nicely off of Lance's crash helmet and it helps bring the shot together."

"There isn't too much to this image compared to some of the others this week, I just really like Nico's relaxed mood and how this image conveys it.

"This was taken on Thursday evening during his seat and clutch fit checks before the weekend really got underway on Friday."

"There are quite a few scenic backdrops across the Jeddah circuit and, for this shot during qualifying, I placed myself at the high-speed Turns 23-24 complex.

"I wanted to capture the fast nature of the track but keep the detail of the mosque in the background.

"It's a difficult shot to really nail as you're shooting with a relatively fast shutter speed to achieve the effect."

"I experimented quite a bit with the lighting effects inside the garage on Friday.

"For this shot of Lance, I was able to create a really cool effect by using the reflection of the red light on the back of the AMR22 to add to an already nice personality shot of him.

"You can see how the red streak appears in the image after the light reflects off the garage boarding."

"The Ferris wheel has moved positions at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and it's lent itself to some really nice photos using the lighting effects across the circuit and off-track.

"The leading line and colourful foreground lead the eye nicely through the shot, conveying the sense of speed around Formula One."

"There's always a lot going on on the grid right before a Grand Prix, but it always feels like there's even more going on when it's a night race.

"I wanted to capture that experience, so I used a prime lens shot wide open to try to highlight Nico and the AMR22, with the engineers and mechanics blurrier in the background."
