Qualifying report by Aramco: Monaco GP

Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team driver Sebastian Vettel will start inside the top 10 after qualifying ninth for the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix.

Monaco Grand Prix

A challenging qualifying session for Lance Stroll ended in a Q1 exit after a small error at the Swimming Pool prevented him from significantly improving his lap time.

Sebastian

Sebastian spent a significant amount of FP3 on the Medium tyres, refining the AMR22 and finishing 13th with a best time of 1.13.838.

He started strong in qualifying, putting in a top-10 lap time early on and continued to improve on his best lap time, securing 10th and progressing into Q2 with his best time of 1.13.313.

Sebastian then left it late to secure a Q3 berth, firing in an impressive 1.12.613 lap time in his final flying effort, moving into eighth with a lap time of 1.12.613.

"Finishing Q3 in P9 is a good result. It is always important to qualify well in Monaco, so hopefully we can race well from there and make the most of any opportunities to move up the order.

"The weather is the big question mark, though. If it is wet, it can be a real lottery around this track, but it can also make for a fun and entertaining race.

"I would be surprised if it was a completely wet race, so we might need to be ready for mixed conditions.

"Whatever happens, we will target good points tomorrow."

Lance

Lance and the entire garage team showed great teamwork to recover from a challenging FP3 and make it out for qualifying.

A light impact with the barrier after taking too much kerb by the Swimming Pool damaged his AMR22 and put the team on the back foot in its preparations for qualifying.

Swift work and a huge effort for the team ensured Lance would make it out for Q1. A red flag then impacted his Q1, a delay which halted the session with just a few minutes to go.

When Q1 restarted, a combination of traffic and a small error at Turn 13 prevented him from improving on his 1.13.678 best lap, meaning he qualified 18th.

"First of all, I want to say thank you and well done to everyone in the garage for repairing my car after practice. It was a big push to get everything fixed in time for qualifying.

"Unfortunately, qualifying was frustrating: I went off the track at Turn 13 after taking too much of the kerb and my lap was over. It is a shame because I was four tenths up on my best time up to that point.

"The car has potential, so it is disappointing to qualify 18th."
