Sebastian Vettel

With a total of 132 passes across the 22 races this year, Sebastian overcame Alpine's Fernando Alonso for victory. To celebrate Sebastian's award, we're highlighting his best moves of the year.

Monaco Magic

Sebastian Vettel, 2021 Monaco Grand Prix

A defining moment in his 2021 campaign, this was arguably the race weekend in which Sebastian first fully clicked with the AMR21.

On the streets of Monaco, Sebastian carved his way from eighth to fifth, despite the race running without a yellow flag or Safety Car, meaning the result was decided on the track and on the pitwall.

After making his only stop of the race to undercut Lewis Hamilton and Pierre Gasly, Sebastian re-joined alongside the latter.

Charging up to Casino Square on the narrow circuit, Sebastian held his line bravely on cold tyres to power past the AlphaTauri in one of his best overtakes of the year.

French Fancy

Sebastian Vettel, 2021 French Grand Prix

Sebastian continued his points-scoring form into the French Grand Prix and, like team-mate Lance Stroll, put on an overtaking showcase.

Overtakes are far from straightforward at the Circuit Paul Ricard, with the best place to make a move coming under braking mid-way along the Mistral Straight.

It was here that Sebastian outfoxed Alpine's Esteban Ocon, sweeping around the outside of his rival and ensuring he closed the door firmly as he worked through the chicane.

It proved to be a crucial pass on his way to ninth place and his third consecutive points finish.

Baku Blast

Sebastian Vettel, 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Sebastian's greatest moment on track this season came at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, making history with Aston Martin’s first F1 World Championship podium.

While the decisive moment came at the late restart, benefitting from Lewis Hamilton's lock-up, there were several key moves earlier in the race that put him into contention.

One of these was at Turn One. On lap 36 of 51, Sebastian hounded fifth-placed Charles Leclerc down the main straight.

Making the most of the tow, Sebastian jinxed to the left and took the inside line, just as Leclerc came unstuck behind Pierre Gasly ahead.

Sensing the opportunity, Sebastian claimed the apex, moved ahead of Leclerc and began his pursuit of Gasly and the podium places.

Taking the Trophy

Sebastian Vettel with the Crypto.com Overtake Award

Sebastian's late gains in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix finale ensured he came out on top in the 2021 Crypto.com Overtake Award, being presented with a trophy following the race.

Lance was also a frontrunner in the standings throughout the campaign, the award underlined both drivers' relentless desire to fight for every position until the very last lap of the season.
