We have a new opportunity to be part of our F1 Evolution team, which is the Aston Martin F1 TPC ("testing previous cars") Programme, in the role of Chief Engineer.
Purpose:
- To implement and deliver the trackside engineering and operations of the Driver Development Programme designed to attract and develop future racing talent to the Team.
- Effectively manage the Team’s historic F1 cars and associated inventory.
- To head and lead the running of the F1 cars / other AMR vehicles at non-F1 track events (TPC etc), demonstrations, and any other commercial activity request.
- Create revenue through services (Driver Programme and Demos) or sale (Historic Cars and Parts) with the objective of the F1 Evolution programme achieving its financial targets.
- To actively contribute to the Team’s primary objective of consistently being a top three team in the FIA Constructor’s Championship.
Responsibilities:
Driver Development
- Define and implement the trackside engineering and operations of the Driver Development Programme for the Team in line with the agreed contractual terms.
- Under the direction of the Senior Management, mainly Sporting Director, AMPT Engineering Director and Team Principal, align the operation of F1 Evolution to the agreed programme strategy and goals.
- Define and implement the resources (people and equipment) required to create the capability to support track events or demos world-wide (by road, air and sea).
- Define annual plan of circuits and/or other events (including simulator schedule).
- Project manage events as determined by the plan, ensuring travel, transport, logistics and legal aspects are actioned (including health and safety requirements, from and during events).
- Identify appropriate resources and technologies to support the development of drivers in all aspects besides the driving skills (physical, mental, commercial, engineering and media activities).
- Attract and liaise with upcoming driver talent and their representatives.
TPC programme and Heritage
- Define and implement the Team’s TPC and Heritage programme considering contractual obligation to third parties in respect of historic or “TPC” cars.
- Manage the warehousing, logistics, inventory, and relevant documentation of the Heritage and “TPC” cars and parts; ensuring it doesn’t affect the F1 operation and the relevant cost-cap restrictions.
- Provide recommendations to Group CEO for allocation of chassis at the end of each racing season and the specification of the “TPC” car.
- Determine the process for all inventory made available from the Race Team at the end of each season; identify requirements, service plan, purchase orders and secure necessary stock for TPC, Demo and Heritage programmes.
- Identify what specific parts should be retained, re-order, sale, scrap or recycled for the Heritage inventory.
- Identify and retail cars and parts of special interest for Heritage purposes.
- Liaise with tyre supplier the order and delivery plan of academy tyres throughout the season.
- Ensure programme is established with suitable protocols to ensure continuation of service irrespective of incapacitation if single team member.
Powertrain
- Liaise with PU supplier and gearbox supplier to secure parts and maintenance required for Heritage inventory.
- Liaise with PU supplier and gearbox supplier to secure parts and support for all events.
- Liaise with PU supplier the supply of fuel and lubricants.
- Work with AMPT Engineering Director and relevant functions to put agreements in place with PU supplier and gearbox supplier to govern these requirements and services.
Finance & Commercial
- Set and manage agreed budget for Driver Development and Heritage programme, including headcount costs, other overheads, and event costs.
- Coordinate & manage the cost of events, including travel, transport & logistics, team kit, driver kit, inventory, parts supply, spares and consumables.
- Provide support to Commercial team for the costing of ad-hoc Demonstration events required by partners.
- Work with the Chief Financial Officer and AMPT Engineering Director to manage the commercial contract aspects.
People
- Effectively manage the department resource, driving the best utilisation and efficiency of labour and capacity.
- To progressively lead and develop the Team, communicating effectively and providing clear direction to ensure exacting standards are consistently achieved and maintained.
- Deliver people management processes as determined by the Company including appraisal process, focusing on individual performance, improvement and development, aligned to organisational objectives.
- Foster the teams We are Racing GREEN culture programme throughout the team.
- Place appropriate actions to support the longer-term succession planning and future proofing of the department.
Other
- Support and manage special projects (non-F1) in addition to the TPC/Heritage programme. e.g. AMPT special vehicle builds and track testing.
- Work proactively, responsibly, and professionally at all times and to respect and comply with the company’s reporting structure.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of FIA regulatory requirements.
- Any other duties as reasonably requested aligned to your job role.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Familiar and experienced in running a current era F1 race car.
- F1 trackside engineering experience.
- A clear understanding of the requirements and logistics needed in supporting a Driver Development Programme and non F1 events.
- Posses a thorough understanding of Formula One operations and FIA regulations (including cost-cap).
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge stock management and inventory control.=
- Previous experience of project management or similar in Formula One environment / high level Motorsport environment.
- Previous management experience.
- Be available to travel as and when required to fulfil the requirements of the role in which employed.
- To be self-motivated and to motivate others to thrive in challenging environment.
- Is agile and adaptive, with the ability to calmly and confidently work under pressure to achieve targets and deliver results within required timescales.
