Make A Mark | AMF1 and Cognizant bring STEM careers to life at the Australian GP

Cognizant

Students join AMF1 and Cognizant at the Australian Grand Prix for a series of inspiring STEM talks, a behind-the-scenes look at the world of Formula One and the chance to meet Driver Ambassador Jessica Hawkins.

As the F1 calendar takes Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team (AMF1) around the world, we aim to positively impact the communities we visit throughout the season as part of our Make A Mark initiative.

At the Australian Grand Prix, we teamed up with Cognizant and its partner Creating Chances, a social enterprise that promotes positive youth development through sport, to bring STEM to life and inspire students from Melbourne's Monterey Secondary College about opportunities and careers in these fields.

Students were invited by Cognizant to explore the iconic Albert Park Circuit before we took them on a tour of the F1 paddock. Here they were introduced them to our Driver Ambassador Jessica Hawkins for a thought-provoking Q&A session, followed by the chance to explore the AMF1 garage and race operations hub to gain an insight into the processes behind readying an F1 car for a Grand Prix and team preparation for the three-day event.

"We've been privileged to be taken through the paddock and have the opportunity to go to the garage where we've met some of the AMF1 engineers – a lot of great questions were asked," said Elham Abawi from Cognizant. "I'm really happy the students had this opportunity to engage with the ambassadors, engineers and even some of the drivers."

"The team's definitely inspired the students to really think about their futures and the opportunities that are out there that they didn't really know about before," added Paul from Creating Chances. "This has been an amazing experience so far and there's only more to come."

The students' unforgettable experience comes just weeks before they embark on Cognizant's 10-week Digital Futures programme, delivered in conjunction with Creating Chances and AMF1, focused on equipping young people with the design thinking, collaboration and leadership skills they need to pursue careers in technology.

At AMF1, we are committed to driving positive progress through the influence of the team and our sport as part of our Make A Mark initiative. Partnering with Cognizant, we're seeking out opportunities to advance economic mobility and expand access to high-quality education and training in STEM.
