Celebrating unsung heroes: We team up with Valvoline™ Global Operations to shine a light on mechanics

Throughout March, we've joined forces with our Official Lubricant Partner, Valvoline, to celebrate Valvoline Mechanics Month.

The annual initiative celebrates the vital role of mechanics globally, recognising their work to improve the efficiency, reliability and performance of all transportation from road cars to F1.

At Aston Martin Aramco, our mechanics play a pivotal role in our journey, helping to ensure our cars perform safely, reliably and optimally on the track. They devote countless hours to the build and maintenance of our F1 cars, which are the product of the tireless work and dedication of the hundreds of people who make up our team. Without mechanics, our team would grind to a halt.

Throughout Valvoline Mechanics Month, we've joined forces with our Official Lubricant Partner, Valvoline, to shine a light on the effort, skill and craft of our mechanics and celebrate mechanics both within motorsport and the wider global mobility sector.

We've also sought to inspire the next generation of mechanics hoping to pursue a career in motorsport with an inspirational and educational experience at the AMR Technology Campus and the launch of an outreach programme.

As Valvoline Mechanics Month draws to a close, we look back on the celebrations…

Aspiring Mechanics Programme launched

Together with Valvoline, we welcomed 35 mechanical students from Milton Keynes College to the AMR Technology Campus for the launch of our Aspiring Mechanics Programme.

The programme will see the aspiring mechanics take part in a single-seater diagnostics project to establish the steps needed to make the car operational and then present their findings to a judging panel, with the students competing to win a week with the team where they will develop their knowledge of working on F1 cars under the mentorship of our skilled mechanics. The winners will be announced at the end of May and they will also receive a Valvoline toolbox.

At the launch event, the students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of our state-of-the-art new home to see the development and production of an F1 car and discover more about the variety of roles in the team. They also had the opportunity to meet, and learn from, members of the team, including Aston Martin Aramco Head of Build and Car Assembly Mark Gray, who provided an insight into what takes to be an F1 mechanic.

Valvoline Mechanics Month emblem tours the globe with Aston Martin Aramco

Throughout March, the Valvoline Mechanics Month emblem has adorned the helmets of our pit crew. From the season-opening double header in the Middle East to Down Under in Melbourne at the Australian Grand Prix, we've proudly sported the emblem in a show of support for the initiative and the invaluable contributions of mechanics around the world.

Shining a light on unsung heroes

Valvoline Mechanics Month is an opportunity to recognise the crucial work of mechanics who are sometimes the unsung heroes.

It can be easy to forget when a flurry of green emerges into the pitlane or buzzes around the AMR24 before a session that beneath the helmets, fireproof suits, gloves and boots, is a team of highly skilled people working as one cohesive unit.

We asked our mechanics to take off their helmets for a moment to showcase this skilled and passionate team of people in the garage through the lens of acclaimed photographer Conor McDonnell.

'The Mechanic'

Valvoline Mechanics Month may be drawing to a close, but the skilled work of mechanics spans the entire year, and later this year we'll be launching a new content series showcasing the working lives of our mechanics beyond the month of March and across the season.

Shedding light on the dedication to their craft that simply isn't reflected in its entirety when the sport is broadcast on TV, this series will lift the lid on the life of our mechanics like never before and also uncover untold stories of personal struggles and sacrifices to realise their ambitions.

'The Mechanic' will launch later this year. Become an I / AM member to receive updates about the series and have the chance to watch it before anyone else at an exclusive screening.
