"This is our thing, it's what we do" – stories of support from a Silverstone campsite

Aston Martin F1

A festival atmosphere well before the main festivities – we visited Silverstone's famous Woodlands Campsite to spend time with you, our fans, and hear your stories of support for the team at the British Grand Prix.

The week of the British Grand Prix was intense, inspiring and unforgettable.

Throughout race week, you brought your energy to our home race, cheering us on, waving your flags and wearing your colours in support of the team – just as you have throughout the season, including in Montréal, Miami, and Barcelona.

So we ventured out to see our neighbours for the weekend at Silverstone's famous Woodlands Campsite – a kaleidoscope of colour, a thumping heart alive with energy – to meet fans and uncover stories of support, passion and love for the team.

I thought the team had no business being where it was in the standings this season, but the team has really proven itself this year.

An incredible journey

"I've never been to the British Grand Prix before. This is my first time, we're sitting at Abbey – there's a group of three of us – and we're so happy to be here. I support all the young drivers like Lance – drivers who could be champions in the future.

"The journey Aston Martin is on in F1 is incredible. It's almost like the team has risen from the ashes. I thought the team had no business being where it was in the standings this season, but the team has really proven itself this year.

"The team is doing amazing – everything is coming together: Fernando is on fire, there's the backing and vision of Lawrence [Stroll], and there's this growing wave of fan support behind the team. Aston Martin F1 is becoming a top team. It's incredible to see."

A hard charger and a fighter

"I've been watching Formula One since the James Hunt days and coming to Silverstone for more than a decade.

"I love the way Aston Martin is rising up the F1 grid, and I love Fernando Alonso. Fernando and the team are proving to be a great combination and they're going to be up there fighting for wins.

"I've followed Fernando since the early 2000s. When Aston Martin announced he was joining the team, I thought that was a great move because Fernando is a hard charger and a fighter – if anyone's going to drive a team forward, it's Fernando.

"Lance will learn a lot from Fernando and I think he'll become one of the top drivers in the next couple of years. If he can learn from Fernando's experience, he'll be right up there.

"All the overtaking moves they've been doing, challenging the established runners at the front of the grid, nip-and-tuck racing – that's what it's all about. Fernando does that and Lance too; it's great to see."

I watched F1 when I was a kid but stopped in 2010; my friends have brought me back in and here we are at Silverstone for the team's home race!

Exciting times

"Being at the British Grand Prix, I want to support a British team and that's what AMF1 Team is – and Fernando and Lance are legends. That's why I'm sporting an Aston Martin F1 hat this weekend!

"The team has taken a huge step forward this season. It's amazing to follow the team on its journey."

Harry Smith

"My favourite thing about this year has been seeing Fernando Alonso get his spark back. He's happy, driving well, and it's been a while – it makes me genuinely happy to see. Lawrence [Stroll] has invested a huge amount to build a strong team and I can see the team finishing in the top four this year."

Joe Sansby

"I've been watching Formula One for three or four years, but I supported a different team when I started. I'm wearing green now because we did an AMF1 Team factory tour last year and it made me fall in love with the team. It's a hugely exciting time to be a fan of the team and be at Silverstone for its home race."

Emily Stubbs

"Alonso's Bahrain podium was also my favourite result so far this year. I watched F1 when I was a kid but stopped in 2010; my friends have brought me back in and here we are at Silverstone for the team's home race!"

It's been an incredible journey. The team is doing an incredible job now it's fighting at such a high level and the pressure is on.

A long wait

"I've been watching F1 for 28 years and 1996 was my first British Grand Prix.

"My favourite moment was Alonso’s second-place finish in Bahrain. It must've been emotional for him, as he had waited so long to stand on the podium again – he's propelled his way back. I think he's a teacher; I think Lance can learn a lot from him and become a better racer because of Fernando.

"It's been an incredible journey. The team is doing an incredible job now it's fighting at such a high level and the pressure is on. The new campus looks amazing – I passed it on my way to the campsite."

We save up our money every year to come here. This is our holiday. This is our thing, it's what we do.

This is our thing

"My dad got me into F1 – he's been following the sport since the late '80s, early '90s – and we've been coming to the British Grand Prix together since 2019. We save up our money every year to come here. This is our holiday. This is our thing, it's what we do.

"We came down from Liverpool to be here and it's an incredible place to be. The atmosphere is great – it's something special. There's nothing quite like the fandom at the British Grand Prix.

"Being able to meet members of the AMF1 Team here at the campsite… I don't think we've ever got this close to any team before. It just takes things to another level and is really inspiring for someone like me who wants to work in F1 after graduating."

I like following teams in the midfield but AMF1 Team has surprised me – getting onto the podium. If the team starts winning, no problem!

It's all about the journey

"We used to follow Sebastian Vettel. He joined Aston Martin last year and when he retired, Fernando came in, Lance was doing really well, and we thought, why not? Stay with a good team, good driver. We want to follow a good journey.

"It's been a really good year for the team. Fernando's done so well and Lance has been coming up too.

"Honestly, I like following teams in the midfield but AMF1 Team has surprised me – getting onto the podium. If the team starts winning, no problem! Winner, winner, chicken dinner, right?"
