Breaking down barriers: young students from The Aleto Foundation complete nine-month mentorship programme with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.
Over the past nine months, young students from The Aleto Foundation have been learning from members of our team, helping them to explore potential career opportunities in STEM and motorsport and develop skills to pursue a career in these fields.
Aston Martin Aramco and The Aleto Foundation have a shared mission to increase diversity and participation in motorsport and, as part of our Make A Mark responsible business strategy, we are breaking down barriers to provide a pathway for the next generation to careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
In July last year, we announced a partnership with The Aleto Foundation to provide a tailored leadership programme for young ethnic minority students. This saw 16 students learn directly from members of our team, helping guide them and give them advice around breaking into motorsport.
The sport and our team relies on a talented pool of people with STEM backgrounds – but the barriers to STEM education and STEM careers are often set too high, particularly for students from ethnic minority backgrounds. A key focus of our Make A Mark responsible business strategy is to lower those barriers by equipping students with the skills and knowledge to excel within motorsport and related industries.
To mark the end of the nine-month programme, the mentees joined us at the AMR Technology Campus where they spent time with their mentors, learned more about our AMR24 racecar, toured our state-of-the-art home, and received masterclasses from the likes of Team Principal Mike Krack and Group CEO Martin Whitmarsh.
