Driven to Greatness | Ep. 02: Put to the test at AMR Technology Campus where high-tech engineering meets high-speed racing

In the second episode of Maaden's Driven To Greatness, Olympic rower Husein Alireza got a taste of what it's like to train as a Formula One driver.

Team Ambassador Pedro de la Rosa reunited with Husein Alireza in the latest episode in Maaden's new series dedicated to unlocking potential and achieving greatness.

From the moment he arrived at the AMR Technology Campus for the first time, Husein was immersed in the world of Formula One. Guided by Pedro, he stepped inside the team's operational facilities before being put to the test through a series of rigorous exercises in the team's world-class gym.

"This is where the whole team trains every day," explained Pedro. "Not only race drivers, but you can also see how the mechanics train to be as fit as possible. They follow a specific training programme to be ready for the pitstops. So, I want to show you what a Formula One driver has to go through."

While elite sport is familiar territory for Husein, Pedro revealed just how different the challenge of Formula One is: "I'm pretty sure there's lots of similarities with your sport, but it's a bit different. I think you would be fit enough, 100 per cent, but after one lap, you would have cramps everywhere. The races take two hours. Your heartbeat is normally 160 to 170bpm. Your body's working the G-forces constantly."

Putting mind and body to the test, Husein tackled a series of assessments, from reaction and coordination tests to neck-strength exercises designed to build muscles to withstand the immense forces experienced on track.

The experience culminated with Husein being given exclusive access to the team's simulator – one of the most important tools in modern F1.

"The only thing that differs from reality is that there are reduced g-forces, but the handling of the car is the same," said Pedro.

In addition to being a tool to prepare for race weekends, the simulator allows drivers to refine their performance and unlock their greatness.

Experiencing it first-hand gave Husein a new appreciation for the level of detail behind a driver's preparation. "I can see how people can spend hours of this," he said after testing the simulator.

Reflecting on the day, Pedro said, "The main purpose of this trip was to show you not only the facilities, which are impressive, but also the mentality of our people."

Beyond the cutting-edge facilities and technology lies the team's greatest strength: a culture built around continuous improvement, where every individual is committed to finding performance and unlocking greatness.
