The Mechanic – a documentary on the commitment beyond the spotlight

2800x1600 (Desktop HomePage) V2

24 Grands Prix. 126,000 miles. 180 days away from home. Intimate documentary The Mechanic reveals what it takes to work in one of the most demanding environments in elite sport.

The Mechanic tells the story of grit, determination, and sacrifice from Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team mechanics both at the racetrack and beyond it.

From pushing through the pain barrier to working all night to repair the car, this is an unparalleled and unfiltered insight into the unique demands of being an F1 mechanic; a role that requires deep knowledge and passion, mental fortitude, physical endurance, and keeping cool under pressure. Put simply, it requires greatness.

Together with our Principal Partner, Maaden, we've been unearthing that greatness. Following a series of candid interviews with our drivers and senior leadership team sharing their thoughts on what that means in a six-part series titled Unearth Your Greatness, which dropped in 2025, The Mechanic now turns the spotlight onto our mechanics.

A portrait of life in a modern-day Formula One team, The Mechanic lifts the lid on the people who get our racing cars on the track.

Watch the documentary below, and keep scrolling for a breakdown of the scenes you need to keep an eye on.

Five scenes you need to see

1 | "What am I going to do about work?"

Lance Stroll's No.1 Mechanic Harry Rush suffered back pain during the season which became so severe he began considering surgery. We join Harry in his hotel room at the Mexico City Grand Prix as he mulls over what that could mean for doing the job he loves.

2 | A phone call across the world

From the outside looking in, a Formula One weekend is a Friday through to a Sunday but, in reality, for a mechanic in the race team the weekend starts several days before the car goes on the track. Multiply that by 24 and you have a role that requires circa 180 days a year away from home.

Fernando Alonso's No.1 Mechanic, Mikey Brown, discusses the significant challenges that presents after missing his son's first birthday while at the Singapore Grand Prix.

3 | Football family

We join Jodie Warrington, Team Co-Ordinator Evo Team, and her daughter Emily as they play football together in a moment away from the track.

As Jodie explains, it's a great way to wind down from such an all-consuming role, but we also hear them discuss how, as a family, they have accommodated and adapted to the demands of her life in motorsport.

"Travelling the world to do what you love is inspiring," says Emily, though Jodie admits that it's been a tough balancing act of chasing the dream job while also raising a family.

4 | The night shift

Back at the AMR Technology Campus, the team repair and work on the AMR23 before they must ship it to Italy the next day for a test session. Facing an overnight shift and a race against time, the team calmly and meticulously puts the car together.

5 | The calm before the storm

The hours of work. The preparation. It all comes down to one moment: lights out. As the adrenaline spikes and the revs rise, our mechanics explain how they find serenity in the chaos, taking a brief moment to set themselves as a Grand Prix begins – knowing they could be needed at any moment.

It's all about feel
